Scholarships

Ensuring students have the financial support needed to successfully matriculate through post secondary institutions is vital to the mission of the Legacy of Pearls Foundation. We offer several scholarships for students pursuing post-secondary studies.

How to Establish a Scholarship (this is only for those donors who want to start/establish a scholarship), if you are a student, keep scrolling to apply for available scholarships. 

Legacy of Pearls Book Scholarship

An annual scholarship open to any student enrolled in college. Applications will be available October 1 – November 1 each year.  We are currently not accepting applications.

Legacy of Sisterhood Scholarship

An annual scholarship open to all seniors attending Douglas County High Schools.  We are currently not accepting applications.

Barbara A. Dye Legacy Scholarship

A scholarship in memory of Barbara A. Dye, mother, grandmother, family member, and friend. This scholarship will support a student in the community as they continue their post secondary education. Donors giving to this scholarship will receive a tax donation letter at the end of the year.

Linda P. Calloway Legacy Scholarship

A scholarship in memory of Linda P. Calloway: wife, mother, family member, and friend. This scholarship is open to Metro Atlanta minority women pursuing a career in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Donors giving to this scholarship will receive a tax donation letter at the end of the year.    We are currently not accepting applications.

LaTanya Boatwright Legacy Scholarship

This scholarship was established to honor the Boatwright, Williamson & Jones families whose vision, commitment to education, and personal sacrifice enabled Ms. Boatwright to be the first in her family to attend college.  This scholarship is open to male and female students who are currently attending college.  The student must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 with a demonstrated financial need. The student must exhibit a strong commitment to their education.  Donors giving to this scholarship will receive a tax donation letter at the end of the year.

Jonathan & Mary A. Ware Legacy Scholarship

A scholarship in honor of Jonathan & Mary A. Ware. This scholarship is open to Metro Atlanta high school male and female students who plan to attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). Donors giving to this scholarship will receive a tax donation letter at the end of the year.

Frankie Mullins Morris Legacy Scholarship

This scholarship was established in honor of Mrs. Frankie Mullins Morris who was born in Douglasville, Georgia. She was a student in the class of 1961 of R.L. Cousins School, now known as Stewart Middle School.  Ms. Morris was a founding member of Black Education Historical Exhibit and was instrumental in establishing scholarships for Douglas County Students.  The student  must have  a minimum of a 3.0 GPA , attend a Douglas County High School, and plan to attend a 4 year institution. Donors giving to this scholarship will receive a tax donation letter at the end of the year.

Pastor Julia Marbury Legacy Scholarship

A scholarship to honor Pastor Julia Marbury, mother of Dedreial Marbury and Jackie Zeigler, members of Sigma Omega Omega Chapter.  Pastor Marbury believed in educating children through reading. She loved purchasing books for children and this scholarship will keep her love of learning alive through others.  This scholarship is open to high school students in metro Atlanta with a minimum of 3.0 GPA, planning to attend Alabama State University or Bethune Cookman University who have exhibited a commitment to leadership and service.  Donors giving to this scholarship will receive a tax donation letter at the end of the year.

James T. & Bernett Shaw Legacy Scholarship

Established in honor of James T. & Bernett Shaw who ensured that all 12 of their children graduated from high school and that they all pursued their dreams in various career fields. This application is open to students that are currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Nursing (with no prior college degrees), attended high school in Douglas County, GA, and has a parent that is a Sigma Omega Omega Chapter member. This is a one time merit scholarship awarded to a current college student with a 3.0 or higher GPA.   We are currently not accepting applications. 

Beverly Alexander Legacy Scholarship

A scholarship to honor Beverly Alexander, a life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, past President of Sigma Omega Omega chapter and a committed community leader.  This scholarship is open to minority students attending a Metro Atlanta high school with plans to pursue post-secondary education and have a demonstrated financial need.  This scholarship does not have a minimum GPA requirement for the application.  Donors giving to this scholarship will receive a tax donation letter at the end of the year.   We are currently not accepting applications.

John Percy “Dee” Bethel Legacy Scholarship

This scholarship is established to honor John Percy “Dee” Bethel whose commitment to education and personal sacrifices enabled his daughters, Shelease Bethel-Valentine and Letitia Bethel-White to both attend Bethune Cookman – University and graduate with no student loan debt. A voracious reader and great debater, Mr. Bethel instilled the importance of reading to his children. This scholarship is for a current international student attending Bethune Cookman University.  The award is based on demonstrated financial need, community service and student involvement.   Donors giving to this scholarship will receive a tax donation letter at the end of the year.

Arthur David Beavers, Jr. & Gloria S. Beavers Legacy Scholarship

This scholarship is to honor Arthur David Beavers Jr. and Gloria S. Beavers whose vision, commitment to education, and personal sacrifice enabled seven of their children to attend college. In addition, Arthur David Beavers Jr. was a community activist who worked diligently to solve problems and enhance the lives of others.  This scholarship is open to a Metro Atlanta high school male or female student leader who plans to attend college. The student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 with a demonstrated financial need. The student must also exhibit a strong commitment to community service.  Donors giving to this scholarship will receive a tax donation letter at the end of the year. Margie Nell Hall Legacy Scholarship

A scholarship to honor Margie Nell Hall, who worked tirelessly in her community to benefit underprivileged youth.  This scholarship is open to students attending or planning to attend a 2-year or 4-year college or university who have exhibited a commitment to community service.  Donors giving to this scholarship will receive a tax donation letter at the end of the year.  We are currently not accepting applications.

Jimmy Demoris Evans Blue Collar Legacy Scholarship

The JDE Blue Collar Legacy Scholarship is for a first generation college student whose parents emphasize the value of post-secondary education. JDE was a husband, father, cousin and friend who knew the importance of education. This scholarship is to continue his legacy of wanting more and providing opportunities for young people to explore life after high school. Must be a first generation college student (technical, junior college or four-year institution).

Silver Star Legacy Scholarship

In honor of the Silver Anniversary of the 1994 Sigma Omega Omega Silver Stars, this scholarship has been established to support a current college student with their books or other school related expense that will help them with retention in college. This scholarship opens each fall.  We are currently not accepting applications.

Deirdre Graddick Heart of Service Essay Contest

This scholarship honors one of our servant leaders, Deirdre Graddick.  During the 2019 Cotillion, Ms. Graddick learned of a heart condition and underwent a successful heart replacement.  This did not stop her spirit of service.  This scholarship is awarded to a participant in the T.E.A. Rose Debutante Cotillion Scholarship Program who has excelled in community service.  To be eligible for the scholarship award, you must be a participant in the T.E.A. Rose Debutante Cotillion Scholarship Program.

Linda P. Calloway Leadership Essay Contest

This scholarship honors a T.E.A. Rose Debutante Cotillion Scholarship Program participant for their leadership at school and in the community. It honors one of the charter members of Sigma Omega Omega Chapter. To be eligible for the scholarship award, you must be a participant in the T.E.A. Rose Debutante Cotillion Scholarship Program.

Jacqueline Jones Legacy Scholarship

This scholarship was established to honor the legacy of Jacqueline Jones who was a friend, a confidant, a lover of life, and a powerful mother. Jacqueline Jones was the epitome of strength and perseverance and was a three-time breast cancer survivor who fought to the very end. She never was defeated by cancer and triumphed in the face of adversity. Mrs. Jones was a firm believer in family and education and believed that through hard work any dream could be achieved. The Jacqueline Jones legacy scholarship is a tribute to her life that her family wishes to share with a deserving student in the Metro Atlanta area. The student must have a minimum GPA 3.0, plan to graduate from high school in the metro Atlanta area, and plans to attend any post-secondary institution. Donors giving to this scholarship will receive a tax donation letter at the end of the year.

Pearls of Grace Legacy Scholarship

In honor of the Sigma Omega Omega Spring 2019 initiates, the Pearls of Grace Legacy Scholarship was established to assist graduate and/or non-traditional college students in their pursuit of higher education. Students who have shown grace through their commitment to community service are ideal applicants. Donors giving to this scholarship will receive a tax donation letter at the end of the year.  We are currently not accepting applications.

The 7 Amendments of The L.A.W. Book Scholarship

This one time scholarship award is in celebration of the 10 year anniversary of The Seven Amendments of the L.A.W. initiated Fall 2012.  The award is based on demonstrated academic achievement, financial need, and an expressed interest in pursuing higher education.  The students eligible for the award must be actively enrolled at a four year institution of higher education who are originally from the metro Atlanta area or surrounding counties.  The scholar must intend to continue their education at a four-year college or university. Consideration will be given to academic achievement, financial need and the student’s community service record.   We are currently not accepting applications.  

Cerese D. Jewelry Legacy Scholarship

Cerese D. Jewelry is a mother-daughter jewelry design company that is authentic and unconventional.  This annual scholarship was established to support business students enrolled at Clark Atlanta University.  This scholarship will directly support business students with the opportunity to learn, grow and develop.  We are currently not accepting applications.
