This award was established to honor the life and legacy of Mikayla C. Fishburne, whose life was tragically lost in a residential pool drowning on June 16, 2012. Mikayla’s memory lives on through a commitment to uplifting young people who embody compassion, leadership, and a dedication to serving others. This scholarship recognizes a graduating high school senior who demonstrates a strong commitment to public service and community engagement. It is designed to support students who strive to make a meaningful difference—whether through volunteerism, civic leadership, advocacy, mentorship, or other forms of service that positively impact their communities. Through this scholarship, Tremelle Howard seeks to transform tragedy into purpose by investing in the next generation of servant-leaders. The award not only provides financial assistance for higher education but also honors Mikayla’s spirit by empowering students who are committed to building safer, stronger, and more compassionate communities.
